Malene Birger is the Creative Director, Founder, business driver and brains behind BY MALENE BIRGER A/S. Her strong sense of style and aesthetics has made Ms Birger a distinguished figure on the global fashion scene. Her beauty, honesty and cheeky personality add to her appeal as a designer name worth knowing. Malene's interest in design began at an early age. Her main inspiration was her grandmother, as well as her mother's sharp eye for fashion and trends. After an apprenticeship as a window stylist, Malene completed her degree at the prestigious Denmark's Design School and became a fashion designer with Jackpot by Carli Gry. She moved to Stockholm to join Marc O'Polo and was promoted to Head Designer for the women's line. She returned to Denmark and established her first company, Day Birger et Mikkelsen. Malene later left Day to be a concept developer for a variety of major fashion brands in Denmark. Ms Birger created her own brand, BY MALENE BIRGER, in February 2003, and owns 49%, with IC Company A/S as a significant investor. A move signaling their confidence in her creative and commercial talent from the start. Currently, the brand is represented in over 17 countries. With close to 65% of the business generated from outside of Scandinavia, BY MALENE BIRGER is already becoming the global brand Ms Birger has always dreamed of.
